Going Viral: Do you have what it takes?!?

There’s a common misconception that viral marketing/videos must have millions of page views or attract hundreds of thousands of followers in a short period of time in order to be successful. I never really put much thought into the components of a Viral Video until learning more about what really makes them "viral". Like many others, a viral video to me, meant widespread popularity of a video within a short period of time. I realize now that viral marketing messages, like videos, are simply controlled messages that are relative to a large amount of people that can be shared easily on a massive platform (like YouTube). When drilling down into the “science” of things there are 3 main components that lie behind the success of a viral video; these components are: a large user base, a remarkable message and a compelling reason to share that message.

Make sure that your not trying too hard to sell a product when creating a viral video. Also keep in mind that most viral videos become "viral" when they are organic... don't try too hard to create a video that YOU think will become an instant hit. Sit back, analyze your campaign and determine what message you want your target audience to receive. Try to connect with your target audience and really understand what will spark them to engage with your video. The main reason videos go viral is because people have a reason to share them.

Good Luck!
